Hoop Dee Doo Revival Doesn’t Miss a Beat After Two-Year Hiatus

In a world weary of uncertainty and confusion, the much-anticipated return of the Hoop Dee Doo Revue on June 23 brought a whoppin’ dose of comfort, joy, and old-fashioned shenanigans to its opening-night guests. A beloved mainstay since the earliest days of Fort Wilderness (June 1974), the vaudeville-style dinner show closed abruptly in March 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic. Midsummer Garden Avocado Toast

Dreamy, long summer nights bring a hypnotic quality to the hours and brings us closer to the land.  Nowhere is this more evident than in the summer bounty of our gardens brimming with tomatoes, herbs, squash and watermelon. Other than a classic tomato sandwich, there’s nothing I crave more in late June and July than fresh avocado toast. Continue reading “Midsummer Garden Avocado Toast”

Have You HEARD about the Hicksville Trailer Palace?

When “trailer” and “palace” are in the same phrase, I’m SOLD.  This outlandish California resort, consisting of 11 Instagram-heaven trailer rentals just made big news. Yep,  it was revealed in court that Johnny Depp and Amber Heard shacked up at the Hicksville Trailer Palace during a hot (as in heated) getaway a few years ago. But you don’t have to be a Disney film star to afford this experience.

Disney’s Polynesian KONA CAFE Sticky Wings Recipe: You Had Me at Aloha

Among all of the dreadfully unmagical changes of Disney’s Polynesian Resort over the past few years was the elimination of the Sticky Wings from Kona Cafe. Fortunately, they were brought back during the pandemic, but without the enchanting, tangy mustard drizzle. Continue reading “Disney’s Polynesian KONA CAFE Sticky Wings Recipe: You Had Me at Aloha”

7 Things We Know and Wonder about Hoop Dee Doo’s Grand Return

It’s pricey and corny, and something many of us do only once every decade or so. But oh that strawberry shortcake. After a two-year pandemic hiatus, Walt Disney World announced the return of the live old-west dinner show earlier this week. Opening night is set for June 23, with ticket sales beginning May 26. Continue reading “7 Things We Know and Wonder about Hoop Dee Doo’s Grand Return”

You May Not NEED a Golf Cart at Fort Wilderness But You’ll ABSOLUTELY Want One

Even though I’m a runner and usually walk/jog every loop at Disney’s Fort Wilderness, I can’t imagine a stay without a golf cart. Sure, there are other alternatives, like busses and bicycles and strollers with fussy children. But don’t be fooled. Your glamping trip is going to be soooo much more amaaaaazing with a golf cart. Continue reading “You May Not NEED a Golf Cart at Fort Wilderness But You’ll ABSOLUTELY Want One”

Dishing Up Deliciousness at the Food Trucks of Fort Wilderness

It’s almost as though food trucks were made for Disney’s Fort Wilderness campground. No doubt – we sorely miss the days of River Country, the petting farm, and $15 per night campsites. But damn good food on wheels has a way of making a lot of things A-okay again. I dare say the food trucks are the single most bougie addition to Fort Wilderness this entire century Continue reading “Dishing Up Deliciousness at the Food Trucks of Fort Wilderness”

Magically Exotic Oxtail Stew from Boma (Animal Kingdom Lodge)

Walt Disney World gets all the credit for my discovering the utter decadence of oxtails. Until my first visit to Boma (African-inspired cuisine) shortly after it opened, I would have never known this would become my most beloved cut of beef.  Like beef short ribs, oxtails have more of an exotic depth of flavor than ordinary roast, but are more like steak in their tenderness.
