Disney’s Fort Wilderness Loops & Site Details

Disney’s Fort Wilderness is made up of 21 camping loops numbered 100-2100 (see loop maps below), which each contain 10-85 sites. Seven other loops (2200-2800) have cabins. The camping loops are not created equally, and each has its own benefits and drawbacks. Note that while you can request specific loops, they are not guaranteed, particularly the more popular ones such as 1400, or the smaller ones. Once you are assigned to a site, and if you find that it does not meet your needs (perhaps the information below shows is too difficult for you to back in or is too far from the comfort station), you can request a different one before you even go to the site. I’ve also had great luck arriving at a site, seeing another one I  liked much better open, and calling and requesting a move before backing in.

What does work well is a request for a specific type (tent/pop-up, full hookup, preferred, premium, meadows premium). You will usually end up in that particular category, and if not, you will be offered a free upgrade.

Campsites at Fort Wilderness tend to be large and level, with varying degrees of shade and proximity to the amenities. (See: 10 of the Very Best Sites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness) There are four types of campsites at Fort Wilderness, each with different price points. They are Preferred, Premium, Full Hook-Up, and Partial Hook-Up. First, let’s look at the types of campsites, and then we’ll review each loop.

FIVE TYPES OF Loops

Preferred campsites are generally the third most expensive (behind Meadows premium and premium) because they are located near the boat launch (to Magic Kingdom), Pioneer Hall and Trail’s End (down-home dining), the Settlement Trading Post, and the beach (with Evening Water Parade and Fireworks). They vary a great deal in size and shadiness, and are smaller than Premium campsites, although there are some up to 45 feet long and 10 feet wide, which makes it a difficult choice for a very large Class A RV. For each site, both an RV and one tent is allowed. The sites are smaller than premium sites, and the concrete pad is narrow, meaning you need to prepare to get some sand in your camper.

Like Premium and Full Hookup, these sites include water, electricity, sewer, cable, and internet. Preferred loops are: 100, 200, and 300 (pet-friendly). Loop 100 is ridiculously close to the marina, and also to the Settlement Trading Post. Certain sites in 100 are so close to the Settlement Trading Post that you can walk to that porch in 10 to 30  seconds, and enjoy it after hours as though it was your own backyard.  Excellent for people watching or grabbing a quick grocery item.  These three loops were the originals at Fort Wilderness and are not as large as the Premium Sites, but have incredible convenience, particularly if you are spending a lot of time in the parks or visiting the resorts on the monorail (Contemporary, Polynesian). Scroll on down, and we will look at the Preferred Loops one by one.Kissimmee orlando rv

Premium Camp loops tend to be a good deal larger than any others, and were designed to better accommodate larger Class A motorhomes, aka Big Rigs. These are a little more expensive than the Preferred Sites, as they provide you with up to 18 feet by 60 feet, with a larger concrete pad. They also have all of the desired power, water, sewage, cable, and internet amenities, but have an upgraded picnic table and outdoor grill as well. While they range from being slightly further (loops, 400, 500, 700) to significantly further to the marina (loops 1100, 1200, 1300), they are all situated near the Meadows Trading Post, Meadows Pool, Bike Barn, and Campfire. It is confusing because they are often as or more “preferred” than loops 100-300 that are designated as “preferred.”

If you are a family with kids who like to swim a lot or visit the arcade, these loops will likely be more convenient for many of your activities. The Premium loops are 400 through 1400, with 1300 and 1000 being the closest to the Meadows Pool. (Update: In January 2020, the current premium loops will be divided into premium and meadows premium. Remaining in premium will be 400, 500, 700, 1100, 1200, and 1300.)

Meadows Premium (New in 2020 – Loops 600, 800, 900, 1000, 1400)

Beginning in January 2020, some of the former premium loops became Meadows Premium Loops. These are about 8 percent higher in price than the Premium loops, and are closest to the Meadows area (pool, campfire show, trading post, etc.).

Full Hookup sites (loops 1600, 1700, 1800, and 1900) are very similar to the Preferred Campsites in that they are full hook up (cable, water, sewer, power), and go up to 10 feet wide by 50 feet long. However, they are not as close to either the marina nor to the Meadows are. For some people, this can be a bit of an advantage, as the noise levels will be lesser. They are also priced about 20 percent less than Preferred Sites.  Like Preferred Sites, both an RV and one tent is allowed.

Tent/Pop-up sites (loops 1500 and 2000) are the smallest at 10 feet x 25 feet, but they also consist of a dirt/sandy area (in addition to concrete) that makes it easier to stake a tent or two.  These sites, which have power, water, cable, internet, but NOT sewer, were once the most economical way to spend the night on Disney property. However, the prices have increased substantially, as some guests were reserving them to get the perks of the 60-day fast pass reservation window, but not showing up (staying off-property instead).

Details About Each Loop: Preferred Loops

Loop 100 – Bay Tree Lane.

Preferred. Cable, Power, Water, Sewer, Internet. Concrete pad accommodates up to 10 feet x 45 feet. Allows for RV and one small tent (sand area).  Pet Friendly. Starts at $93 per night.

Loop 100 is the very closest to the marina, so it’s only about a 3-minute walk to the boat launch to The Magic Kingdom or the Ticket and Transportation Center. One of my favorite sites is 101 as it is only a few feet from the comfort station, and has more shade than 102 and some of the others. Even with a nice travel trailer, I enjoy the convenience of having an extra bathroom and shower in my backyard. I am also one who can get into a bit of a panic during a big storm, and like the shelter of a solid building that is so convenient. On the other end of this loop are 112 through 116. These are right next to a very short path to the Settlement Trading Post, with its rocking chair porch. This is incredibly convenient when you’ve forgotten creamer for the coffee (back in 2 minutes!), or when you want to sit and people watch. Of course, this loop is also very close to Pioneer Hall and Trail’s End restaurants, as well as the Tri-Circle-D Ranch.

The downside for some would be the noise of late night park visitors coming back in the for the night. And yes, you will absolutely hear the nightly water pageant. Now, if you’ve “upgraded” to  a large RV, you are not going to fit nicely into this loop at all. I personally wouldn’t go above about 35 feet, maybe a little more – the problem here is less about fitting on the site itself, but navigating with cars parked a bit in the road. This loop is also super close to all three bus lines, so your wait time to get somewhere is very diminished indeed. I also like that it is among the smallest loops, with only 25 sites.

Loop 200 Map

There’s really not a big difference in Loop 200 and 100. They are side by side, so you are still only a very short walk to Meadows Trading Post, the marina, Pioneer Hall, and three bus stops. Loops 100 and 200 share a comfort station with bathrooms, showers, and a laundry room. While Loop 100 may be the most preferred loop in the campground, many end up with Loop 200 when making a request for 100, and this is not a bad thing at all.  Like loops 100 and 300, the concrete pads are narrow, and you will be dealing with sand to some degree.

Like Loop 100, there’s a good chance you’ll get to enjoy the sounds of the lake parade and the fireworks in the evenings.

Loop 300 –  Cypress Knee Circle

Preferred. Cable, Power, Water, Sewer, Internet. Concrete pad accommodates up to 10 feet x 45 feet. Allows for RV and one small tent (sand area).  Pet Friendly. Starts at $93 per night.

Loop 3

Loop 300 is a favorite of many pet owners. Not only is it still relatively close to the boat launch and Settlement Trading post, but it is very close to the dog park and has a nice playground. The comfort station, with restrooms and laundry room, is located right smack dab in the middle, making it quite convenient for most campers in the loop. Unless most loops, this one also has a basketball court as well as a playground.

On the other hand, it is truly a longer walk to the marina and Settlement area than are 100 and 200. This is why it has its own bus stop. Another drawback is the tightness of the sites. There are 61 sites packed into a relatively small area.Out of all 61 sites, only site number 302 is easy to back into. Most of them are quite difficult. This is also a lot of people sharing one comfort station.

Loop 300 is not going to be the quietest loop, but it may not be the noisiest either. In addition to many dogs, you will still hear the boat parade at night and possibly from sounds from the campfire sing-along, depending on where you are in the loop.

Details About Each Loop: Premium Loops

Loop 400 – Whispering Pine Way

Premium. Prime locations. Cable, Power, Water, Sewer, Internet, Upgrade Picnic Table and Grill. Suitable for large motorhomes. Concrete pad accommodates up to 18 feet by 60 feet. Pet Friendly. Starts at $99 per night.

Loop 4

Loop 400 holds the distinction of being the premium loop that is closest to the marina, boat launch, Pioneer Hall, and the Settlement Trading Post. What’s not to love?

It shares its comfort station with Loop 500 (I wish every loop had its own), and it is not the closest loop to any particular something, but it is one of those that feels like you are not too terribly far from anything, either. Kind of like the baby bear in Goldilocks. In many ways, it is just right.

Because it is a premium loop, it costs just a tad bit more than the preferred loops (usually about $6 a night more, depending on time of year). So, if you don’t have a tent (and don’t need a concrete pad), you’ll enjoy the large pad and roominess of the site. There are no sites in this loop that are difficult to back into, and most are fairly easy.

Loop 5

Loop 500 is the premium loop that is closest to the dog park.  This means that it is also near the playground area that is next to the dog park.

Buffalo Bend is a an appropriate name for this loop because it is rather large, compared to some of the others, with 56 sites. Even with its size, there are no sites in which it is painfully difficult to back in.  Most are easy, and you’ll be in within a couple of minutes.

Now,  it will take longer to walk to the marina than loops 100, 200, 400, and 700, yet it is doable (and will certainly feel much easier when you leave in the morning than when you return later on). I’m not sure that Loop 500 is anyone’s favorite loop, but it’s still quite fitting for camping nobility.

Loop 500 shares its comfort station with Loop 400. There are several nice sites that back up to the water. These are very nice, but it is possible to spot an alligator sunning.  It is more likely that you’ll see lots of birds along the canal – cranes, wild turkeys, a deer or two. You will not see any buffalo, however – even on Buffalo Bend.

Like Loop 400, Loop 600 is relatively convenient to both the Settlement Area and the Meadows Area – a nice walk or a short bide ride to either. It is particularly close to the campfire and the nightly marshmallow roast with Chip and Dale (and the movie, too). This can be a big bonus for many, but you might want some ear plugs if you are a diva and the sound of Disney movies and happy families annoys you. In all seriousness, a peculiar issue to Loops 700 and 600 is that way that they are laid out, parallel to the road. This means that you can see and spy a lot of comings and goings if you like people-watching, but there is very little in the way of privacy.

The higher numbered sites are much more shady than the lowered numbered ones. But the ones that back up to the water can be quite lovely, and we can pretend that we have our own private moat.

Even though this is a premium loop, larger RVs and motorhomes may find that their owners get royally frustrated during the back-in process. Most of these sites are not easy at all to back into. There are no sites in 600 that are very close to a comfort center, so you might think twice about this loop if you have a large number of primping maidens in your bunch.

New! See a gallery view of all Loop 600 sites.

Cinnamon Fern plant
Cinnamon Fern

I prefer Loop 700 to Loop 600 because there is more foliage between the loop and the road, providing a bit more privacy. In fact, the loop name – Cinnamon Fern – is not a make-believe Disney plant. It is actually a very large fern that grows wildly and is native to North America.  It loves moist soil, and is seen in Florida during most months of the year. So see if you can find one in Loop 700 (and don’t eat or smoke it).

Like Loop 600 (which is the other one that runs completely parallel to the road), most sites in Loop 700 can be very difficult to back into. The one exception is site 711, which is fairly easy.

So, what do we like most about Loop 700? Proximity to the Settlement area, including the marina, boat launch, Settlement Trading Post, and Pioneer Hall. In fact, the higher numbered sites are closer to Pioneer Hall than are many sites in Loop 200. It’s also very convenient to the Settlement Bus Stop, providing little wait time for a bus, since all three lines go there. And while it is good for the soul and face to just BE, waiting for a bus too long just isn’t my cup of tea.

An inconvenience for some in Loop 700 will be its lack of its own comfort station.

Loop 800

With 74 sites, Loop 800 is the largest at Disney’s Fort Wilderness. This loop has several sites that have large, mature trees that provide shade. It is located directly across from 600, and it is still possible to walk to the boat launch from here comfortably, assuming there’s not a torrential rainfall or 107-degree weather.  Still, it’s a bit further walk than the premium loops of 400, 500 and 700. Some positives about Loop 800 include a bus stop at the main entrance and a comfort station inside the loop. A creek runs along behind many of the sites.  Backing in can be a challenge for most of the sites. Overall, Loop 800 is probably not the best, but certainly not the worst. You are just a jack rabbit hop or two to the campfire – over the road and down the trail.

Loop 900 is a favorite of many (myself included) because of its extremely close proximity to the pool, Meadow Trading Post, and campfire. Close enough to be at the Meadows Area very quickly, but far enough that the noise is lessened at least a little. Most sites are also well shaded. This is one of the smaller loops. Because it’s a premium loop, you are going to have a nice amount of space and more privacy than in the non-premium loops. Many sites back up to a creek, although some of our favorites are those near the entrance, just across from the Meadows Trading Post.

Loop 1000 is very similar to Loop 900, except that the creek presence is much more limited. It is among the most convenient to the Meadows Area.

With only 23 sites, it is among the smaller ones, and there are a few on the backside that are along a creek. The lower numbers may have to endure noise from the very busy bus stop at the entrance, but will also enjoy some of the least number of steps in the campground to a comfort station.

Loop 1100

Loop 1100 looks and feels differently than some of the other loops in some sort of interesting way. It has very tall pine trees and large sites. With a higher tree canopy, one gets less of a sense of coziness than in sites with foliage closer to the ground. While I prefer the shade, I am also one who worries about large falling trees, particularly in the subtropical climate where there is a near daily storm. Of all the premium sites, Loop 1100 is likely the least convenient to points of key interest. It is very far from the Settlement Area, but is somewhat convenient to the Meadows Area, depending on the site.

Of all the premium loops, this is my personal least favorite. But then I like activity and people and tea parties and children. But if you want a premium loop that is quieter than most, has a good amount of privacy and don’t have a castle-sized motorhome, then Loop 1100 may absolutely be the choice for you.

It has its own comfort station and the bus stop is across the main road. Most sites on this loop are not  very easy to back into.

Loop 1200 is the first non-cabin loop that many people see upon entering Fort Wilderness (depending on which direction they are going), making it a prime one for sight-seeing, particularly during the holidays.  With 22 sites, it is among the smallest (but with nice, large sites), and is convenient to a comfort station (shared with Loop 13).  Being at the intersection of two major Fort Wilderness roads, it can be noisy with the sounds of car and bus traffic. And on a map, it appears convenient to the pools, but the journey is just a little more cumbersome that it appears, and requires taking a network of paths to get to the crossover bridge – yet still much closer to the Meadows than most loops. Most sites are not easy to back into, but not the most difficult either. Overall, it is a fairly popular loop with many desirable sites.

Loop 1300 is a top favorite due to its proximity to the Meadows Trading Post and pool. In fact, from the canal area, you can actually see the pool (and hear it as well). It has not always been a premium site, but its pads were enlarged and the sites are now large and without the sand found in the other types of sites. It does share a comfort station with Loop 1200, and has a playground. The sites that back up to the canal are the most popular and offer somewhat of a view of the Meadows Pool area. Loop 1300 still makes for an easy bike ride to the Settlement Area and boat launch. By foot, it’s about .75 mile to 1.0 mile to Settlement depending on your campsite and destination.  The biggest negative on Loop 13 is the difficulty of backing into most of the site.

Outside of Loops 100 and 200, Loop 1400 is likely one of the most popular ones in Fort Wilderness, and it’s hard to imagine disappointment being assigned to this coveted paradise.  It is also a very large loop, with an inner loop inside the outer loop. This inner loop provides a nice place for young prince and princesses to play.  With site numbers in the 30s and 40s, you will basically have an evening Disney movie right in your backyard.  With the extended pads (since 1400 was upgraded to a premium loop), some of the pads are quite close to the canal, and this is something to consider when backing in.  Getting a site on the outer loop that backs up to the Meadows can be a stroke of luck, as there is a large, expansive and manicured “meadow” behind you. These few sites may be among the most beautiful in all of the campground.

The only complaint imaginable about Loop 1400 for some would be the noise and action that comes with more people, more foot traffic, and being in the center of the Fort Wilderness universe.

Loop 1500

Seeing a group of laughing children running and skipping from the Meadows Pool across the large lawn headed towards Loop 15, it is the ultimate image of summer. The way we imagined that it used to be. That romanticized and partly-made-up notion of running safely in the neighborhood every night well past sunset, and our parents having no idea where we were. No elevators or stairs, just dripping bathing suits, towels, and green grass. This group looks grossly energetic leaving the Meadows Pool because they don’t have far to go. But your whopper $1 million RV is not going to fit here, my friend. This is the one time you will wonder if you should have socked that money away somewhere else, and splurged a cool $9000 on a nice pop-up or $200 on a tent. Loop 1500 is that good.

Okay, so we’ve gotten a little spoiled (I have). The bad thing about the pop-up and the tent and Loop 15 is no sewage hookups. This is fine with me during the day, but during the middle of the night, are we to hold it til morning, traipse across the loop to the comfort station in our princess nightgown, or simply find a spot in the woods (a wilderness princess, unlike an un-wilderness princess can go wherever she pleases, right?)

Also, when you’re this far out, it’s time to seriously consider renting a golf cart for at least part of your trip. Skip dinner out, cook at the campsite, and put the dollars toward the experience of effortlessly exploring Fort Wilderness.

Because 1500 is so small, your odds of actually getting it are only moderate. Good luck!

Details About Each Loop: full hook-up Loops

Loop 1600 – Timber Trail

Full Hoop-Up. Cable, Power, Water, Sewer, Internet. Concrete pad accommodates up to 10 feet by 50 feet. Allows for RV and one small tent (sand area). Pet Friendly. Starts at $82 per night.

Loop 1600

Loop 1600 is one of four loops tucked nicely away on the edge of the property – the only four full hookup loops – now that more of the others have been converted to premium. It is actually quite convenient to the Meadows area – an easy walk.  Folks who aren’t too terribly happy about the number of loops becoming premium are happy to stay here to save a bit of money. Of the four, loop 1600 is fair. What is lacks is privacy, room between the sites, and very much in the way of trees or other foliage. It shares a comfort station with Loop 1700.

Like 1700, 1800, and 1900, it feels somewhat more like a very green state or national park than Disney.

Loop 1700

Loop 1700 seems to be the favorite by far of the full hook-up crowd. It does not have the price of a premium site, but is still within a fairly easy walk to the Meadows Pool area. While 1600 is a little bit closer to the Meadows, Loop 1700 sites tend to have a bit more in the ways of trees and privacy (though not always). Loop 1700 shares a comfort station with Loop 1600.

Loop 1700, like its sisters 1600, 1800, and 1900, are among those that are informally known as the Cloverleaf section, due to the shape that they make combined.

Loop 1800, like loops 1600, 1700, and 1900, are tucked in a corner that was once known as the Cloverleaf Area. Since they are off the beaten path, there tends to be more ground vegetation as well as a true forest feel. This loop is directly across from a dog walking area, which makes it somewhat popular among pet owners. The lowest numbers and highest numbers (near the entrance) are also a fairly easy walk to the Meadows Pool and other Meadows areas.

Loop 1900

In my view, this is the least desirable loop for some in all of Fort Wilderness. While it is full hook-up, most of its sites are more narrow than those of the other full hook-ups, with almost swampy areas in between sites during rains. Consequently, there is very little room off campsite for the kids to play.  Notably, it is located in the very back corner, up against the forest,  and is really out of the way of everything else – and rather dark at night. You may not even feel as though you are in Disney anymore. For this reason, some people actually like it because it has more of a national forest feel, and can be extremely quiet, save the sounds of nature.

Details About Each Loop: tent loop #2

This loop has a more isolated feel that many, but it still fairly well located. A shortcut path to the Meadows Area is to take the overbridge through Loop 900. The sites are roomy and most of them are comfortably shady. Historically, larger groups, such as Boy Scouts, have been assigned to this loop, but more often than not, it maintains a peaceful feeling. Interestingly, there tends to be quite a greater number of Class B and Class C RVs here than there used to be, even with a lack of sewage hookup. While I strongly prefer 1500, if you are a light sleeper (or have young children that wake up easily and won’t go back to sleep), then this may be better for you.

Details About Each Loop: one more full hook-up loop

Loop 2100 – Bobcat Bend

Bobcat Bend was recently converted from a cabin loop to a full hook-up loop, likely due to increased demand for RV sites and frequent occupancy in the cabins. Although the sites vary in size, it seems to be a new favorite of some who like the privacy and remoteness. It is absolutely among those that nearly requires a golf cart to get places in a quick and enjoyable manner.  The outer sites in the 20s and 30s back up to Loop 1100.
