You May Not NEED a Golf Cart at Fort Wilderness But You’ll ABSOLUTELY Want One

Even though I’m a runner and usually walk/jog every loop at Disney’s Fort Wilderness, I can’t imagine a stay without a golf cart. Sure, there are other alternatives, like busses and bicycles and strollers with fussy children. But don’t be fooled. Your glamping trip is going to be soooo much more amaaaaazing with a golf cart.

let’s go looping!

I know it sounds weird if you haven’t done it, but nighttime looping at Fort Wilderness is one of Walt Disney World’s greatest joys. It’s just a real hoot to see all the other people, zip quickly over to the Wilderness Pool, find deer or owls, or look for scavenger hunt treasures others have left around.

You also may become oddly addicted to seeing what new lights and decor have been put up by the guests that just arrived that day. Honestly, looping becomes a nightly megadose of that feeling you get at Fort Wilderness that doesn’t exist anywhere else.

If you know, you know.

You may or may not need a golf cart for your entire trip – maybe just for the days that you are actually not going to the parks (almost all for me). People think that they need carts to get to the marina, but this is where walking is a healthy and good bet.

Taking the busses back to your camper if it’s late is not so bad either. So if you don’t have mobility challenges, you can get around the Fort just fine without one.

But that’s not the point.

The handy-dandiness of the golf cart comes in when you’ve gotta get somewhere in a hurry.

Perhaps you’re running late for your horseback ride.  Not a problem if you have a golf cart.

Need a pack of cheese in a hurry for those morning scrambled eggs? Take the golf cart.

Just wanna entertain your kids before bedtime? Golf cart, momma.

Golf Cart Rental Fort Wilderness

One of the worst parts of not bringing or renting a golf cart is that you’ll seriously covet your neighbor that does have one. And that’s like one of those 10 Commandment things, right?  Seriously, that other whole family will just look and be a lot happier.

Any ol’ gaudy decorations and lights will make your family feel the Fort magic. Renting your golf cart from Fort Wilderness? No problem. They allow and encourage your decorations.

forget about your worries and your strife

golf cart at fort wildernessWorried about the price? Well, skip that Trail’s End dinnerand have a smoldering cookout instead.  Definitely don’t splurge on one of those dry cupcakes that are shaped like chicken legs. Heck, skip another park day. Funnel those savings into Fort Fun-On-Wheels. Even at more than $60 a day, it’s just how you’ll wanna roll.

sorry we are sold out of golf carts- WTH?

Now for the issue of actually getting a golf cart. If you’re not bringing your own, then you can try to reserve one from Fort Wilderness. Note that these sell out quickly, but sometimes you can still get a day or two without a reservation once you’ve arrived. We actually reserve our golf cart from the company in which we rent an RV – it’s been Kissimmee Orlando RV the last couple of times and it ended up being way more affordable than the Disney price point.

If you’re bringing your own RV, you can also try Tee Time Golf. The only caveat here is that you’ll need to pick it up a few miles away (but they’ll loan a trailer).
