Seven Smokin’ Hot Ways to Explore Fort Wilderness with Your Sweetheart

More often than not, Disney’s Fort Wilderness conjures up postcard-perfect images of family swims, children on bikes, and dads pushing strollers after late nights at the park. Yes, it’s dandy-good, wholesome fun. But what Fort Wilderness is less recognized for is its place as one of the most romantic – even sultry – places in all of Walt Disney World.

Whether it’s Valentine’s Day, anniversary, or just a weekly date night, here’s some ways to supremely spice things up.

For Afternoon Delight – Take a Canoe Ride

fort wilderness canoe

These self-navigating excursions take you into the mysterious old canals of Fort Wilderness. Those places that you wouldn’t see otherwise. It takes about 30 or 45 minutes to complete, and along the way you’ll see abundant wildlife and untamed flora.

In no time after you leave the Meadows canoe launch, you’ll be transported to remote old Florida in minutes, with just the right hint of danger. Me Jane – you Tarzan.

wanderlust looping

fort wilderness night loopingLet’s make our favorite golf-cart looping activity just a little wilder. Take off just before midnight, and be on the lookout for a clandestine make-out spot under those smoldering Florida skies. I’m thinking near the Wilderness Pool or maybe that little-known bridge that connects Quail Trail (Loop 900) to the group camp area.

Bonus –  leave a smutty love note tucked in a hidden place to be found by your paramour. She’ll be forever yours.

secretly rent a cabin for one day

disney cabinGo camping in an RV but quietly rent a cabin for one of the days. Shhhh . . . . don’t tell the kids or the grandparents.  Sneaking off is part of the allure.

This idea’s pricey, but I’m 100 percent in.  (Related: How to find last-minute availability and deals on Fort Wilderness cabins. )

giddyup!

fort wilderness horsebackJump in the saddle if only because everybody just looks more mackadocious on a horse. Dress up in your subtly-risque western getup. With all the mouse garb that surrounds you, nobody will think twice. Double up on the cowboy cologne (I’m thinking something mesmerizing like old-school Hermes Rocabar).

Unlike carriage rides, trail rides are still ongoing throughout the pandemic, but reservations are needed.

Midnight at the meadows

fort wilderness bike barnCraving a walk on the wild side? Those winding pathways near the Bike Barn, the Trading Post and archery station take on a whole new other-worldy ambiance when most other campers are nodding off.  Solo cups are recommended.

dancing in the moonlight

Make a playlist of the sexiest Disney songs – Bella Notte, Kiss the Girl, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, etc. Play them while you wine, dine and tango (or two-step) at your campsite.  Go all out with a few PDAs and make a tiny little scene.

look for the bare necessities

Sometimes, simple is best. Kick back and take a lazy hand-in-hand walk to the beach (especially when the fireworks are back). Or share a Rum Swizzle or Gullywhumper on the Trail’s End Porch before lunch (followed by a nap).

While you’re at it, take some slightly-scandalous couple pics for your DisInsta.
