It’s not an overstatement to say that Disney’s Fort Wilderness my be the best place on earth to spend Halloween. With over-the-top camper decorations, golf cart parades, and a built-in moody forest, it’s a little monster’s paradise.
PLanning is half the fun
We are actually headed there in a few weeks, having secured the most coveted of all WDW reservations – Halloween at the Fort. Luck was on my side when I got a campsite reservation when the dates first opened. This was way back in 2019, before the world became such a truly scary place.
I’m working on a fairly simple but unique display for our site. My superhero husband has been devilishly helpful. And I’ll share some of the excitement from Fort Wilderness the week of Halloween. But for now, if you’re going to be there this October (or at another campground), here’s a few wicked ideas we’ve spotted on Twitter. Some of these go all the way back nearly 10 years.
We skipped the parks tonight to visit my favorite resort, Ft Wilderness. We expected a parade, but instead saw some of the most creative and incredible campsites! What a wonderful gift these guests provided for visitors tonight! 😍 #Halloween #ftwilderness #WaltDisneyWorld pic.twitter.com/pZTHv2YtZP

disney themes abound, but optional
Oh yeah, there’s Mickey pirates, Mickey pumpkins, and not-so-scary Mickey ghosts. You’ll also see plenty of his friends – Minnie, Jack Skellington, Grim Grinning Ghosts and a multitude of villains. Lowe’s and Home Depot typically have an expansive selection, particularly in the inflatable category.

Laughter in the moonlight
Some of the best of all are those that border on the bizarre or elicit a cackle.
One of my favorite Halloween decorations we saw at Fort Wilderness was this blow-up Frankenstein monster on the toilet that farted whenever you passed it pic.twitter.com/SRBmK8EnqV

Lighting the night
Lighting is the key to those ghoulish evening displays. Luckily, each site has a couple of outlets in addition to the RV plugin. With a variety of multi-plug strips and extension cords, it’s not as difficult as it might seem to light up a grandiose display.

Masquerade madness
There’s something to be said for costumed characters donning costumes on top of costumes. Double-pretendo. Nobody does it better than WDW.

nightmare on my loop
Frankly, some of the decor is the creepy stuff of horror movies and very, very bad dreams. Now that my kids are taller than me, these are some of my favorites.

thrills on wheels
Don’t forget the decorations for your golf cart. Fort Wilderness even allows you to decorate their rentals, and there is traditionally a golf cart Halloween parade. And it’s really a scream. If you happen to secure a Halloween campsite, try to reserve a golf cart right away as well (there’s a waiting list of more than 200 for this year). Many RV rental companies, such as Kissimmee Orlando RV, also rent carts – usually for a lower price than the Fort.

bonus TREATS
So, here’s the bad news. If you don’t have Halloween reservations at the Fort this year, it’s not likely you’ll be able to get in just to browse. But here’s a couple of crafty ideas that wilderness friends and campers can enjoy anywhere.
